That Good News I Mentioned Last Week

I've had just about a month of Gentleman of Leisure status, and frankly it was starting to wear thin. So fortunately, I can report on the bit of good news from earlier.

I have just accepted an offer from the University of Missouri Health Care program for the position of Instructional Technologist. My actual start date is still in question - we're waiting for current Big Storm to pass over us before I head up to start filling forms out.

The job entails relocating to Columbia, so that's my next thing to obsess over.

Veni. Vidi. Vici?

Had a job interview today. I think I did ok, but I suppose time will tell.

Previous Management Experience: Guildmaster

The Wall Street Journal had an op ed this week about how videogames are changing the economy. The author points out that for the past few hardware generations gaming has driven the increase in graphics and processor development in a fashion that was once the sole province of the government or military.

He also goes on to liken the social hierarchies of games like World of Warcraft and other MMOs to the business culture of tomorrow. This may be true - and is likely to become more true as further generations of gamers become part of the workplace - but we're not yet at the point where all that time spent wrangling healers or planning raids is something I'd want to have appear on my resume.

Something tells me most Human Resources types just wouldn't be terribly amused.

Demarcation Lines

Today is my last fully productive day of employment. For the time being.

As I have often said, the life of a defense contractor may be glamorous, but it is not very stable. Contracts come and go. Systems die due to infighting or the advance of time and technology.

And sometimes Congress forgets to do simple things like pass a budget.

In any event, I find myself with a temporary spate of free time on my hands. (How temporary is open to speculation.) The wheels are turning, though. Resumes are going out, contacts are being, well, contacted and contingencies are being formulated.

So do not panic. All is well.
