In gaming, SHODAN is an artificial intelligence run amuck, freed from the limitations of morality and possessed of unremiting hostility towards her creators and other meatbags, especially the hackers that fight her.
So it's ironic that in real life, Shodan is "the Google for hackers".
Developed by programmer John Matherly, Shodan is a map of computers and devices connected to the Internet, which sounds innocuous enough, until you consider that many of those devices are not just printers or refrigerators with IP addresses but the control equipment for things like power plants, water purification systems, traffic systems and other large scale systems of civilization.
Most of which utilize the same amount of account security as the average PC. Which is to say none at all.
