Blah blah, boilerplate "can't believe the year is half over" words words mutter grumble.
Ok, consider the preamble, er, preambled.
There's been some good stuff so far this year, mixed in with some things that by rights should have been good but somehow missed the mark.
The year started out with me having already bailed on Star Wars: The Old Republic - a game I really wanted to like but just couldn't warm up to. Mine was an early exit but I was not alone. By the time the game hit the six month mark it had lost nearly half its initial launch audience.
In all honesty, 2012 has not really been kind to Bioware. Well, if you go by dollar signs it's been amazingly affectionate, but the controversy surrounding Mass Effect 3 exposed a major disconnect between game makers and their gaming press confederates and the average gamer. It's a shame, too, because even with a sub par final half hour ME3 delivers a lot of great moments.
But, oy, those fateful last thirty minutes. Every time I think about replaying any of the Mass Effect games now, I think about the Star Kid and just can't do it.
